1. I really liked Elizabeth Eagan-Cox's novel. It’s an interesting read, keeping my interest all the way through the book and I did not anticipate the eventual solution of the crime at all. 3. Elizabeth Eagan-Cox layers the bricks of historically factual elements with the mortar of an ever-twisting paranormal mystery in her imaginative new novel, 'A Ghost Of A Chance'. Best read by anyone curled up in an over-sized armchair, feeling the warm glow of a wood-burning fireplace upon your skin, while simply hearing nothing more than the ticking of a clock upon it's mantle; you'll be transformed as soon as the "magnificently preserved wood chest" reveals its enchanting secrets starting in Chapter One. From there you can 'Follow your heart', and let this fascinating tale flow through you...

5. A Ghost of a Chance
First in a series set in historic locations throughout Southern California

Review at www.MyShelf.com by Sandie Vega

I found A Ghost of a Chance, by Elizabeth Eagan Cox, to be both refreshing and energizing. From my point of view, the tale told made me feel as though I was part of the investigation team and I truly enjoyed every word.

Shannon Delaney has come to San Diego California to develop a brochure for the Blackthorne House Mansion. The mansion is being converted into a bed and breakfast, and Sister Rosario has hired Shannon to provide the history behind the mansion and the family that owns it.

Sister Rosario and Shannon go way back, so when this opportunity came up, Sister Rosario knew just who to contact.

From the moment that Shannon arrives at the mansion, strange things begin to happen. By total coincidence, Shannon meets Alex Blackthorne, the great-grandson of the original owner, Eric Blackthorne. Shannon and Alex have an immediate attraction to one another, and Shannon soon discovers that Alex has important information about his ancestors that will assist her with her research. Besides, Alex is not hard to look at, has a great sense of humor, and she enjoys spending time with him. Shannon is very wary of her instant attraction to Alex. Remember that old saying: burned once, twice shy. She has been there and done that and learned from her mistake.

Another key character of this story is Inspector Francisco. He is an investigator and is also a relative of the first and only owners of the mansion. Shannon gets lost trying to find Sister Rosario’s church and ends up at an old country church. She decides to go in to hear the service that is about to begin. After the service, everyone gets together in the garden for refreshments, so she decides to stay and enjoy them. Across the garden, she sees a very handsome man and he notices her as well. Over walks Zach, the grandson of Inspector Francisco. What will be discovered on the ranch land that Francisco's family owns, and how does it all tie into the mystery of the Blackthorne’s?

The characters together come to a conclusion about the mystery.. Eric Blackthorne and his lovely wife, Olivia, were murdered way back when, and the investigators have an inkling as to who did it. But the evidence needs to be weighed out and chronologically cataloged for anything to make sense. The four main characters of this book each have an important role in the discovery of what happened to Eric and Olivia, when it happened, and by whom.

This is a very fast paced eBook worth downloading and reading. I can't wait for the next eBook in the series to come out early 2009! Thanks again Ms Cox for giving me the opportunity to review this wonderful book!

Shannon Delaney has been hired to write a brochure for the Blackthorne House Bed and Breakfast. She is impressed with the mansion but feels it might be haunted. After seeing ghosts, she wonders are they real, or only in her dreams?

Zach Zavala is in the architectural restoration business. He is also a detective, curious about the history of Blackthorn Mansion. When Shannon and Alex inform him about their investigation, he eagerly joins in the search.

Shannon is glad to be greeted by her favorite nun, Sister Rosario Santiago, at Blackthorn Mansion. After Rosario begins telling her the history of the house, Shannon had no idea, a deceased magician, a chest, and a journal would open up a Pandora box syndrome. Shannon feels it is haunted. Eric Blackthorn was a magician that just vanished, which sparks interest in Shannon. She meets Alex Blackthorne, a direct relative to Eric, and they become cozy while researching the mystery within the house. While compiling the brochure and exploring the house, she meets Zach, who is eager to be part of the team. As the past and present unfold, Shannon must face a bigger decision; go with Alex or Zach.

A Ghost of a Chance is an engaging read. There are many paranormal events that keep the story moving at a good pace. Elizabeth Eagan-Cox pens a tale with two handsome men eager to help Shannon in any way. I love Sister Rosario’s character and how she helps to make the story enjoyable. Ms. Eagan-Cox has done great research in the making of this book. She incorporates different elements to help make it more believable. I like the way she does the ghost-like effects, of the past and the present. With a well-rounded cast, the story captivates the audience and keeps them guessing.

A Ghost from the Shadows by Elizabeth Eagan-Cox is a great read with a lot of adventure, just like the first in this series.

Publicist Shannon Delaney is called upon to lend her talents to Shelly MacArdle, who is transforming her family bungalow in Avalon Resort on Catalina Island, California, into a a 1920's era Magic Dinner Theater. Avalon is just what Shannon is looking for. A quiet resort town, with no cars, no hussle and bustle, just a relaxing atmoshere in which she can concentrate on her task at hand, to develop a brochure which highlights the new Magic Dinner Theater.

Shannon is looking forward to seeing her old friends again, such as Zach Zavala, who has been hired to renovate the bunglaow. You might remember him from book 1—he fancied Shannon but she did not explore her feelings for him at the time. Francisco Zavala is Zach's grandfather and a friend of Shannon's Aunt Dora. Alex Blackthorne was her love interest from book 1, but that relationship didn't work out. And let's not forget the ghosts who come back from the past to assist her with this mystery.

Avalon is all that Shannon hoped for, a lovely island where life is simple and rewarding. She is living in the bungalow so that she can experience all it has to offer, while Zach is remodling it to turn it into a 1920's era Magic Dinner Theater.

Shannon's first night gives her a bit of a scare. While she is soaking in the huge bathtub she hears what sounds like wind chimes. She gets out of the tub, grabs her robe and goes in search of the noise. She finds a room at the front of the house used in previous years as a playroom. Hanging in the window is a wind chime; the gentle breeze blowing in from the open window is triggering the pleasant noise. As she turns around, she notices what appears to be a man on the opposite side of the room. It looks like he is trying to tell her something. As he opens his mouth to speak and his hands make a gesture, his words are written on the wall. Problem is, they are in a language that Shannon does not know.

The next morning, Zach arrives with his crew to begin the remodeling and Shannon tells him all about her midnight visitor. Between the two of them, they begin to uncover the mystery of the bungalow.

As with Book 1 in this series, A Ghost in the Shadows is very well written and keeps you moving quickly through the plot to the ultimate conclusion of this mystery. A wonderful book that you will enjoy. I can't wait for the next in the series to be written, so that I can again experience the words that Elizabeth writes!

From Coffee Time Romance: Review of A Ghost From the Shadows by Elizabeth Eagan-Cox

After a failed romance, Shannon Delaney, a publicity writer, takes an assignment on California’s Catalina Island, Avalon resort. While there, she will meet up with some new friends, as well as some old ones.

Zach Zavala is one of her old friends, and he is hoping to be more. When last he saw her, there was another man interested in her and she chose to sail into the sunset with him. Now she is back, and he will find a way to stake his own claim on her.

When Shannon hears about a hidden pirate treasure, she knows she must delve down and find its location. As Zach, and her previous romance, Alex, help her find clues, a new mystery comes into the picture. With different factors on her plate, Shannon is soon deep in the mystery surrounding both the treasure and an old murder. Just as she thinks nothing else can happen, a ghost comes forward to help guide her in the right direction.

Ms. Eagan-Cox has written an interesting romantic mystery with a lot of twists and turns that will keep you on your toes. Ghost from the Shadows is the story of how one woman with a unique paranormal gift helps explore people’s pasts and solve unidentified crimes. With a good mystery background, this is definitely not a book for someone who wants a ‘little light reading’ but for someone who is a true mystery fan. Sometimes the reading seemed too ‘heavy,’ and I could not quite understand where the storyline was going. With no explanation provided, it left me feeling as if I were in a maze and trying to find my way out. Intense and with a hint of romance, this book will keep you guessing and leave you with a surprising and shocking ending, making you beg for more.

Readers Reviews. As an author I like to hear what readers have to say about my Shannon Delaney novels. I post non-industry reviews along with the reviews of industry professionals. Here's a few reviews sent in by readers.

A Ghost of a ChanceI found this book purely by accident. I was looking around on an ebook site and it jumped out at me. I love a good mystery and if you throw in a few ghosts it is A++. The characters and their interaction were great. Shannon seemed to leap off the page. Good point was she was not a supernatural character, just someone who happened to be in a place that had secrets that needed to be known.

The first in the Shannon Delaney Paranormal Mystery Series; as one might expect there is time given over to the introduction of the main characters of which there are quite a few. I’ll be interested to watch further developments in later books. Solving a mystery that is over 130 years old may seem a daunting task, but interesting, especially when the mystery involves a famous magician, his old mansion and mysterious chest, handsome descendants, and a psychically sensitive heroine.

Working as a team, five main characters try to determine what happened to Eric Blackthorne, the magician of over 130 years ago; did he just disappear or was he really murdered? The story builds throughout the book as the team resurrect clues from varying sources. The excitement of discovery and meaning of each clue is contagious to the reader. Not least of the clues appear to come to Shannon in the night. Is she dreaming them or are they manifestations? Is there a ghost helping her? and are the hilarious appearances in the night truly clues? All these questions come to bear on the case and play their role in the mystery. I loved the author’s wily way of incorporating not only clues but humor in the mix! The story flows well, the discoveries of the past weave through the present day smoothly and build the reader’s interest. Hints of jealousy and romance appear throughout the story, and it seems to end with a promise of more about to blossom with the continuation of the series, but not without its complications.

I really enjoyed this first book and look forward to the growth of the series. I am definitely hooked on Shannon’s dreams! The cast of characters form a unique alliance, too. Once the first characters were established the book took off and took over, leaving me reading almost straight through at one go. Easy to read, strange quirks to throw us off balance, glimpses of life of the rich and of early San Diego, two families tied together in mutual interest in the case, all make for an effortless but exciting journey through a very "cold case"!

A Ghost of a Chance

Elizabeth Eagan-Cox

Reviewed by Shelly Franz

With historically accurate settings and a unique premise, "A Ghost of a Chance" is the premier in a new series by Elizabeth Eagan Cox. Set in San Diego in a historic mansion, with sleight-of-hand magic playing a large part, this promises to be a series worth reading.

The main character, Shannon Delaney, is intelligent and well-drawn, and the mystery is well-crafted and has enough twists to keep the reader guessing until the end. The paranormal element only adds to the book's attraction.

A Ghost of a Chance is an easy and quick read...good old-fashioned ghost story that can also be told to teens on up. No graphic language or gore. Author implements good use of imagination without out a lot of frilly details. Lots of authentic history incorporated into the mystery. I look forward to the next book in the series. A Ghost of a Chance by Elizabeth Eagan-Cox is a fun cold-case mystery with just a hint of paranormal for spice. Set in San Diego today, the first Shannon Delaney novel follows the investigation of a group of friends into the disappearance of a magician a century earlier. Was he murdered? If not, why does his ghost appear to Shannon? And what happened to his paramour? With a diverse cast, both present and past, this book is sure to provide an entertaining read. CathWren, Seattle, WA

Dear Elizabeth;

I thoroughly have enjoyed A Ghost of a Chance. As winter storms howled around the house and I snuggled with hot chocolate. I was delighted with Shannon Delaney and her delicious mystery to be solved. Having known a nun such as your Sister Rosario in real life, I was drawn to her right from the start. The story is a lively read and would make a nice gift for someone wanting to take a load off and just enjoy some 'me' time. I look forward to the next of Shannon's adventure in the series. K.M. book 2: A Ghost From the Shadows
Since I was hooked from the first book, I was eager to read book 2. Story line flowed and I loved the way you could almost see the characters come off the page. Great story and the return of some of the characters from the first Shannon book made it a pleasure to read.
